Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways as goals from Lukasz Piszczek, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Raphael Guerreiro gave them a massive 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lucien Favre responded to last weekend’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen by dropping Manuel Akanji to the bench, with Lukasz Piszczek coming in to replace him. Borussia Dortmund made a dominant start to the game and nearly took the lead in the first ten minutes. But Raphael Guerreiro hit the post with his free-kick after Erling Haaland was fouled on the edge of the box.

Borussia Dortmund continued to have the lions share of the ball, but had to wait until the 33rd minute to take the lead. And the goal came through the unlikeliest of sources, as Lukasz Piszczek found the bottom corner with a peach of a strike from his left foot from the edge of the area.

Der BVB were unable to add to their lead for the rest of the first half, but they made sure not to give the Eagles even a sniff of a chance to claw back into the game.

Borussia Dortmund returned from the break looking to add to their lead. And they got their second goal just five minutes after the start of the second half, with Jadon Sancho finding the net after being played into yards of space by Axel Witsel.

Two became three just four minutes later, as Erling Haaland got in on the act, tucking home Achraf Hakimi’s cross. Raphael Guerreiro then added some gloss to the scoreline with a beautiful finish from the edge of the box, making it 4-0 for the home side.

Borussia Dortmund spent the last 15 minutes passing the ball around and making sure that they kept their clean-sheet intact.

In the end, it was a commanding display by Borussia Dortmund, who moved to within one point of league leaders Bayern Munich, who play on Sunday. Paris St. Germain will provide a much tougher test in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Lucien Favre could not have asked for a better response from his side.
