Jadon Sancho could make Borussia Dortmund debut this weekend

Jadon Sancho could make his Borussia Dortmund this weekend after he was recalled by the club from the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The 17-year old was representing England at the tournament in India and started in all three of their group games. He scored three goals and assisted two as England qualified for the last-16 with a 100% record. But now he has returned joined his Borussia Dortmund teammates and could make his senior debut this weekend.

Sancho scored in Dortmund U-19s 2-0 win over APOEL in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday after training with the senior team on Monday.

England U-17s head coach Steve Cooper expressed his disappointment at the news of Sancho’s departure from the World Cup. He added that he believes the reason for his recall is that Borussia Dortmund want him in their first-team.

“I can only imagine they want him back to play in their first team at the weekend and I assume he will be starting for them, because I can’t think of a reason why you would take a player away from a World Cup,” Cooper said.

The club were earlier against allowing the teenager to go to India to represent England. But eventually they gave him permission to leave, provided he returned after the group stages. Before he left, Sancho was on the bench for the club’s 2-1 away win against FC Augsburg.

And with a game against Eintracht Franfurt, followed by a DFB-Pokal tie against 1. FC Magdeburg coming up, Sancho could be set for his debut in the next week.

Sancho joined Der BVB on deadline day from Manchester City on a £10 million transfer. However after issues with his registration, his debut has been delayed. But now it looks like Borussia Dortmund fans will finally get to watch their newest young talent in action very soon.
