Borussia Dortmund want to sign Turkish midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup from Besiktas, according to reports in Turkey.
Turkish outlet Fotomac (via Sport Witness) claim that Borussia Dortmund have been impressed after scouting Ozyakup in recent weeks. And they are lining up a bid for the 25 year old. Ozyakup’s contract with Besiktas expires at the end of the season, but he could sign an extension with a buyout clause of 12 million euros, which Dortmund are prepared to meet. Newcastle United and Everton are also interested in signing Ozyakup, and could rival Dortmund for the player.
Ozyakup started his career with Arsenal, before moving to Besiktas in 2012. This season he has made 32 appearances for the Turkish giants, assisting seven goals in all competitions.
Dortmund’s interest comes as no surprise, with the black and yellows looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer. Nuri Sahin and Gonzalo Castro could both be sold in the summer. While Julian Weigl seems to be out of favor at the moment, and he is being linked with both Manchester City and Paris St Germain.
Ozyakup can play both as a defensive midfielder and further up front as a number 10. He could be the long term replacement for his compatriot Nuri Sahin. Ozyakup is a hard worker and is known for his ability to pick out a pass. But whether he is good enough for Borussia Dortmund remains to be seen.
Borussia Dortmund are currently fourth in the Bundesliga table, with four games left in the season. With a major squad overhaul planned for the summer, they will be hoping to finish in the top four, otherwise their transfer plans could be seriously impacted with no Champions League football on offer.
