Marco Reus scored the only goal of the game as Borussia Dortmund won their final preseason game against Italian giants Lazio.
Lucien Favre went with a strong lineup with new Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus leading the line and Christian Pulisic, Mario Gotze and Jacob Bruun Larsen behind him in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Dortmund started strongly in Essen and took the lead after just six minutes. Jacob Bruun Larsen, who has been the preseason’s breakout star for Dortmund, found Marco Reus with his low cross. The latter’s first time shot was deflected and found its way into the back of the net.
Dortmund took control of the game after the goal. Abdou Diallo, Mario Gotze and Chrstian Pulisic came close to scoring for the Black and Yellows. In the second half, Mahmoud Dahoud skimmed the post with his freekick.
New signing Axel Witsel made his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund, replacing Delaney in the 75th minute. Jadon Sancho, Maximilian Philipp, Marius Wolf, Nuri Sahin and Dan Axel Zagadou also came on for Dortmund in the second half.
In the end, one goal was enough to seal victory for Borussia Dortmund. It was a decent performance, with a number of players impressing. Abdou Diallo, Thomas Delaney, Jacon Bruun Larsen and Marco Reus all played well for Der BVB.
After a long and successful preseason, the focus now turns to the DFB Pokal. Borussia Dortmund will take on second division side SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the first round of the competition on Monday, before facing RB Leipzig in their Bundesliga opener on the following Sunday.
