New coach, new players, new captain and a newfound spirit. There is so much to look forward to as Borussia Dortmund kick off their 2018/19 campaign on Monday in the first round of the DFB Pokal.

The clock is ticking and for the first time this year, we are all waiting for Monday to arrive! ‘Die Schwarzgelben’  travel to Fürth for the first taste of competitive football this season in the DFB Pokal. The arrival of Lucien Favre as well as seven new players has fans expecting a much better showing than we saw last season. Borussia Dortmund just about averted disaster last season and it will be interesting to see how the new look side fares in the upcoming season.

Due to the disappointment of last season, the expectations are aren’t as high going into the new season. Dortmund are back to the underdog status, which as history suggests, is where they usually shine. Yes, the Black and Yellows have strengthened significantly, but on paper Bayern are still miles ahead. The BVB bosses have already downplayed expectations, saying a top four finish is their only target for the season. But Dortmund will be determined to do well in Europe and hopefully make a deep run in the DFB-Pokal.

So how will Borussia Dortmund fare this season? Who will be the most important player? Which signing will have the biggest impact? We asked our writers and here are their answers. Read on further to find out.
