Right Back: Lukasz Piszczek
Another tight call, this time between Kieran Trippier and Lukasz Piszczek. And the veteran Pole just edges out the Englishman because of the stellar season he is having. Both Trippier and Piszczek are major threats going forward for their respective teams. But the latter’s consistency in defense makes him our pick.
Centre Back: Toby Alderweireld
One of the first names on the Tottenham Hotspur teamsheet when fit and available, Alderweireld is one of the finest defenders in Europe when he is on his game. The Belgian is always cool, calm and collected and also has an impressive passing range in his locker.
Centre Back: Jan Vertonghen
Slotting alongside Alderweireld in defense is compatriot and Spurs teammate Jan Vertonghen. The 31 year old is another cool customer and has been performing consistently well for Spurs since joining them in 2012.
The likes of Manuel Akanji, Dan Axel Zagadou and Abdou Diallo certainly have the potential to become as good as the two Spurs centre backs. But with the former duo currently struggling with injuries and Diallo out of form, the Spurs pair get the nod.
Left Back: Achraf Hakimi
Tottenham have two very talented left backs in Ben Davies and Danny Rose. But Achraf Hakimi has largely been on another level this season. While he has made a few defensive errors, the on loan Borussia Dortmund full back has at times been unstoppable going forward. His marauding runs have led to many Dortmund goals both in the Champions League and in the Bundesliga. The Moroccan has three goals and seven assists to his name in all competitions so far this season.
