Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed that the club will begin contract talks with Mario Götze following the summer break, while Youssoufa Moukoko is set to be promoted to the U-19s next season.
Zorc comments on Götze rumors
Mario Götze’s future has been the subject of a lot of speculation in recent weeks with his contract set to expire at the end of next season. Reports claimed last week that Götze may not sign an extension, and could instead look for a move away from Borussia Dortmund, with Arsenal being a potential destination.
However, Michael Zorc has revealed that the club are in constant communication with Götze’s representatives, and the 27 year old has not asked to leave. Zorc also confirmed that Borussia Dortmund will sit down and negotiate a new contract with Mario Götze at the start of the season.
“At the beginning of the new season, we will sit down together,” Zorc told SportBILD. “We have heard rumors from England for years. As always, we’re very relaxed, because we’re in good communication with Mario’s father and his advisor. Götze hasn’t approached us with a wish to leave.
Moukoko set for promotion
Borussia Dortmund teen sensation Youssoufa Moukoko will play for the U-19s next season, youth chief Lars Ricken has confirmed. Despite being just 14, Moukoko is considered to be one of the most highly rated talents in the country. This season, he scored 46 goals in just 25 games for the U-17s, breaking a national record set by Donis Avdijaj. And now he is set to be rewarded with the opportunity of playing for the U-19s next season.
“Youssoufa has now reached the age in which he is allowed to play in the U19 team. We see this as the right year for him to play in this age group, which corresponds to his performance,” Ricken told BILD.
Moukoko has all the tools to become a future star for Borussia Dortmund, but Ricken is not getting ahead of himself just yet and wants the young striker to stay grounded.
“Youssoufa is a very successful scorer, but that is by no means a guarantee that he will also become a professional. He is very inquisitive, hungry for success, hardworking and always comes with a smile that distinguishes him, that’s what we look at.”
Moukoko will be in action for the Borussia Dortmund U17s later today as they take on Wolfsburg in the semifinals of the German U17 Championship.
