Bundesliga Preview: The lowdown on Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund
After finishing just two points behind Bayern Munich last season, Borussia Dortmund moved quickly in the transfer market to bring in reinforcements in areas that desperately needed improving. Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt have been brought in to add some extra quality to the Black and Yellows’ attack, while Mats Hummels and Nico Schulz have arrived to shore up the defense.
Lucien Favre’s side are in great shape heading into the new season, and they delivered their statement of intent with a comfortable 2-0 win over Bayern Munich to win the DFL Supercup earlier this month.
Borussia Dortmund’s squad not only has great quality, but also has some serious strength in depth in almost every position. Lucien Favre has plenty of ammunition to launch a title bid this season, and his side go into the campaign as one of the favourites to life the trophy that has eluded them for the last seven years.
Key Players
Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus was the best player in the Bundesliga last season, and he will be determined to pick up right where he left off. Another player who will be aiming to repeat his feats from last season is Jadon Sancho. The young Englishman enjoyed a stunning breakthrough campaign last season, and looks primed to play a big role once again this year.
New signings Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt will add some much needed quality down the left wing. While Paco Alcacer looks to be in great nick heading into the new season.
