Borussia Dortmund transfer rumours: Initial approach made for Marcus Thuram, Dries Mertens a January target

With less than ten days to go before the start of the January transfer window, the rumours are in full swing. Here we look at the latest transfer gossip involving Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund make Marcus Thuram approach

According to FootMercato, Lucien Favre is keen on strengthening his attack with the signature of Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram. The performances of Thuram, who joined Gladbach in the summer for just 9 million euros, have caught the eye of many, including the Borussia Dortmund head coach.

And the report says that Favre has himself made an approach to someone close to the case to find out the situation of the Frenchman. The 22 year old has hit the ground running at Gladbach, and has ten goals and six assists in all competitions so far this season.

However, he is under contract until 2023 and signing him certainly won’t be an easy task. Gladbach are currently second in the Bundesliga table, and will not want to strengthen a title rival.

January target Mertens rejects Napoli contract

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing Dries Mertens in the January transfer window. The Belgian international’s contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season, and he has already rejected a renewal offer from the Italian club.

Mertens would prefer to move abroad if he leaves Napoli, and a move to Borussia Dortmund would be the ideal solution for both the club and the player.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested in signing the 32 year old.
