As the Bundesliga goes into its customary winter break, we take a look at how the Borussia Dortmund players performed individually in the first half of the season.
It has been a stop-start season so far for Borussia Dortmund, with a number of good performances masked by some sloppy and lacklustre displays. Giving away leads has been the main theme of the Black and Yellows’ Bundesliga campaign so far. And they find themselves seven points behind league leaders RB Leipzig as a result.
Since we are at the half-way point of the season, its time to take a look at how the Borussia Dortmund players fared during the Hinrunde. In this post, we assess the attackers.
Jadon Sancho (8/10)
Jadon Sancho has been sensational as of late helping Dortmund regain some confidence before the end of the first half of the season. He scored in 7 straight games before Dortmund’s loss to Hoffenheim and assisted 5 more in that same span. Sancho was also the first person in all of Europe’s top 5 leagues to reach double digits in both goals and assists, an insane statistic in the Ronaldo/Messi era.
That isn’t to say Sancho has been perfect, far from it, he wasn’t anywhere near this level to begin the year. He was able to put together some good individual stats through talent alone but the majority of his performances early on fell short.
With the quality of player Sancho is, it was only ever going to be a matter of time before he got back to his best, which he now has. The rumors of Sancho leaving seem to have died down recently, accompanied by the fact he seems to be enjoying himself much more on the pitch.
