Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt play out thrilling draw
The only draw of matchday 17 came at the Schwarzwald-Stadion, as SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt played out a 2-2 draw. Frankfurt took an early lead through the in-form Amin Younes, before Roland Sallai scored the equaliser at the half-hour mark.
Freiburg substitute Nils Petersen then completed the comeback in the second half, only for Kevin Schlotterbeck to score an own goal and give the Eagles the share of the points.
Arminia Bielefeld stun Stuttgart
Arminia Bielefeld roared to an impressive 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart to go ten points clear of the bottom two. Fabian Klos gave last season’s 2. Bundesliga champions the lead in the first half, before an own goal from Marc-Oliver Kempf doubled their advantage. Ritsu Doan then scored late on to seal the win, as Stuttgart suffered their third defeat in their last five games.
Mainz’ woes continue
Mainz suffered their 12th defeat of the season, losing 2-0 at home to Wolfsburg. Second half goals from Bartosz Bialek and Wout Weghorst sealed a crucial win for the Wolves, who moved level on points with fourth placed Borussia Dortmund.
