Borussia Dortmund Player Ratings vs Augsburg: Jadon Sancho, Thomas Delaney shine in 3-1 win
Jadon Sancho (8/10)
Jadon Sancho is someone whose performances have been under a constant spotlight this season. But he continued current positive streak against Augsburg with a game-changing performance from the left flank. He scored the go-ahead goal in the second half with a fine finish. And his dribbling and tireless running caused Augsburg all sorts of problems. He was then rewarded by getting the captaincy armband from Marco Reus for the closing stages of the game.
Marco Reus (7.5/10)
Marco Reus is another player who has struggled to perform at the top level this season. But the Borussia Dortmund captain showed his class with a much improved performance against Augsburg. Although he didn’t get a goal, his chance-creation, commitment and directness played a vital role in helping Dortmund get the result. His defensive efforts should also not be ignored. He tracked back several times to stop Augsburg counter attacks. The only negative was that he was a bit hesitant in front of goal on a couple of occasions.
Gio Reyna (5.5/10)
A decent performance from Gio Reyna, who won the penalty for Borussia Dortmund. He wasn’t as influential as he has been in some of the other matches this season. But he still worked hard and always tried to assert himself onto the game. He had a couple of nearly moments in the second half which could have made the scoreline even bigger in Dortmund’s favour. He will be disappointed with the ease at which he was beaten for Augsburg’s opener though.
Erling Haaland (6/10)
It seemed as though it wasn’t going to be a good day for Borussia Dortmund when Erling Haaland missed his penalty in the first half. It brought back recent memories of Marco Reus also missing a spot-kick at home vs Mainz a couple of weeks ago. But like every great striker, Haaland found a way to force the ball into the net. He created the third goal for Dortmund as his powerful cross was deflected into the Augsburg net by Uduokhai.
