Defenders: Felix Passlack, Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji, Nico Schulz

With Mats Hummels, Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Meunier only returning to team training on Friday, they are not ready to be in the starting XI against Freiburg. So we will see the same back four take to the pitch on Saturday.

Felix Passlack has endured a difficult start to the season, and he really struggled against Bayern on Tuesday. Freiburg have a number of talented wingers in their squad. So Passlack will have to be at his very best to keep them quiet this weekend.

Axel Witsel has done a fairly decent job at centre-back all things considered. This will likely be his final appearance in this role for now.

Manuel Akanji will join Witsel at centre-back. His mistake for Bayern’s third goal overshadowed what was an excellent performance from him in the DFL-Supercup. He will look to continue his good form against Freiburg.

Nico Schulz is another player who has done well in recent weeks. He earned praise from Marco Rose during the pre-match press conference. And he will look to impress once again this weekend.
