Once again the theme is defense. Dortmund suffers from their lack of world-class talent at the back apart from Sokratis. Davinson Sanchez would change that in an instance.

The 20-year-old from Colombia applies his trade in Holland after recently moving from Atlético Nacional last summer. Sanchez started this season on fire and never looked back. The kid from Caloto parlayed this move into a fantastic season, leading Ajax to the Europa League final and arguably being the club’s best player this campaign.

Standing at 1,87 m (6’1) Sanchez frustrates opponents with his pace and strength throughout the match. Considering BVB play high up the field in possession, he fits the mold for Dortmund being able to stop counter attacks with ease.

Surprisingly, Sanchez’s offensive qualities are just as good as his defensive. Contributing six goals this along with two assists this year, Sanchez is a constant threat when Dortmund have possession.

He looks like a midfielder with the ball at his feet and is a constant threat from the air when in opposing penalty areas, another aspect of Dortmund’s game which needs improvement. Ajax certainly is set to cash in again with Barcelona along with other European giants hot on the trails for the Colombian.

Even with Toprak coming in, Dortmund can never have enough depth at the back especially with their injury history at that position. It doesn’t hurt either to add a potential world class defender to the squad, something that BVB certainly are eager to do.
