5 Transfers That Could Make the Difference for Dortmund Next Year
By Mark Sendon
Corentin Tolisso (22); Lyon
France’s talent at the moment is second to none. Lyon keeps thumping out wunderkinds with 22-year-old Corentin Tolisso being the latest. Tolisso’s rise from the youth teams of Lyon displays his work ethic and is one of the reasons so many are after his signature.
The perfect embodiment of a modern day midfielder, Tolisso tallies 14 goals and six assists this campaign for Lyon. Alongside Weigl, Dahoud and Gotze, Tolisso’s masterclass passing abilities open up space for the runs of Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Primarily playing in an advanced role making strong runs through the middle, he often forces defenders into irrational situations. He can unleash a cannon strike from anywhere on the field when he isn’t slicing the defense open with a through ball.
Tolisso also tracks back doing the dirty work making his teammates jobs easier. Dortmund has yet to fill the gaping whole left by Ilkay Gundogan. It would be harsh to expect Mahmoud Dahoud to replace him like for like, Tolisso would make the transition for them both easier. A future captaincy awaits young Coretin, whether it be in Dortmund of a broad someone will snap him up before it is too late.
Transfermarkt value the Frenchman at 18,00 Mill. €, a reasonable price for an instant impact player with a high ceiling. Tolisso in a yellow jersey next fall makes sense for all parties.
