Who Were Dortmund’s Top 7 Players From 2016-17?
By Mark Sendon
1- Ousmane Dembele: 49 games, 10 goals, 21 assists.
There is only one player left deserving of the top spot in our rankings, and you guessed it: Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman signed from Rennes in the summer for only 15,00 Mill. €, a comical fee considering the enormous impact he made in his first season at the Westfalonstadion.
All of Europe wanted to sign the 20-year-old but somehow Dortmund won the race, and it’s easy to see why he was so highly rated. The starlet turned superstar contributed ten goals and 21 assists in his first campaign in a yellow & black jersey. Week in, week out Dembele victimized defenders left and right, leaving them in the dust on the wing, before whipping torturous balls across the penalty area. When he wasn’t playing provider, he toyed with defenders for fun beating them with ease scoring wonder goal after wonder goal.
It’s safe to say Dembele is arguably the biggest talent we’ve ever seen at Dortmund and he only just turned 20 in May. The thought of a lineup containing Dembele, Pulisic, Reus, Weigl and more for years to come must please every single BVB fan across the globe. Expect another magisterial year from Ousmane next season before he blesses everyone with his skills in Russia for the 2018 World Cup.
