Several Borussia Dortmund players will pause their pre-season preparations as they join up with their National teams for two UEFA Nations league games between September 3rd-8th. A total of 15 Borussia Dortmund players have been named in their respective national squads. Below are the players who will be representing their countries.
Jadon Sancho – England
Nico Schulz – Germany
Julian Brandt – Germany
Emre Can – Germany
Thorgan Hazard – Belgium
Axel Witsel – Belgium
Thomas Meunier – Belgium
Raphael Guerreiro – Portugal
Thomas Delaney – Denmark
Erling Haaland – Norway
Manuel Akanji – Switzerland
Jude Bellingham – England U21s
Youssoufa Moukoko – Germany U20s
Ansgar Knauff – Germany U19s
Luca Unbehaun – Germany U-19s
There are several games in which Dortmund players will face off against each other, Thomas Delaney and Denmark likely with the toughest task facing both England and Belgium. The other game that will see Dortmund players face off will be Germany vs Switzerland which could have a total of four Dortmund players take part.
There were a few surprises in the call ups, mainly Nico Schulz and Thomas Meunier, although for different reasons. Thomas Meunier is currently out with an injury so it’s a bit confusing that he would be called up for games when he isn’t currently able to train with Dortmund. Schulz is confusing just due to his complete lack of game time. He has been a complete non-factor since joining Dortmund but still remains in Joachim Löw’s good graces while barely featuring in the past season.
Meanwhile, Mats Hummels has been one of if not Dortmund’s best player this past season and he along with Thomas Muller aren’t able to get a call up.
