Borussia Dortmund 2-3 Bayern Munich: Three takeaways from Der Klassiker defeat

In what was their biggest game of their season so far, Borussia Dortmund lost 3-2 at home to title rivals Bayern Munich, putting them three points adrift in the Bundesliga table.

Things looked to be going well for Borussia Dortmund initially. VAR ruled out what would have been the opening goal for Robert Lewandowski, and on the stroke of halftime, Marco Reus gave them the lead. What looked to be a guaranteed halftime advantage was short lived though, and David Alaba equalized for Bayern at the end of stoppage time.

Second half goals from Robert Lewandowski and Leroy Sané looked to have secured Bayern’s win. Erling Haaland’s late goal made the final moments close, but in the end Borussia Dortmund could not complete the comeback to take anything from the game as they were made to rue a number of misses which could have altered the game.

Here are three takeaways from what was a deflating loss for Lucien Favre’s side.
