Jadon Sancho ends his Bundesliga goal drought
Jadon Sancho’s stoppage time dagger was a great sight to see for every Borussia Dortmund supporter. His recent struggles in the league have been well documented, and his strike against Wolfsburg was his first league goal of the season.
It looked for large parts of the game though, that the drought was bound to continue. On the stroke of halftime, Erling Haaland’s shot was saved and the rebound went straight to Sancho. With the goal gaping, he wasn’t able to connect with the ball, and his effort went well wide.
Even beyond that miss, Sancho struggled with his decision making in the first half. Although things did get a lot better for him after the break, and he looked more dangerous going forward. His four created chances were the most of any Dortmund player, and he looked like his usual self at times, with six completed take ons.
His assist for Akanji’s opener came off a perfectly placed cross. He also could have gotten a second assist, but Akanji headed wide after Keon Casteels misjudged the delivery on another corner.
He also took his goal really well and that run in the 92nd minute also showed his will and determination. As he was put in on goal by Emre Can, Paulo Otávio seemed to have caught up to him. But Sancho effortlessly beat him off the dribble, before putting the ball into the bottom right corner. It was very similar to his goal in the DFB Pokal against Eintracht Braunschweig in his last game out, making it two goals in his last two games for the Englishman.
Hopefully, this performance will be a big boost to his confidence as he looks to reach the very high levels he set for himself last season.
