Mateu Morey (6/10)

Mateu Morey was given the chance to show what he is capable of following the announcement of Thomas Meunier’s injury. He did a fairly decent job but did not have too many noteworthy moments over the course of the 90 minutes. He defended well and made a couple of vital blocks, even though he wasn’t much of a threat in attack. Perhaps with a few regular starts under his belt, he will be able to make a more telling impact going forward.

Manuel Akanji (5/10)

Augsburg’s only goal of the game came as a result of some poor defending from the home side. Manuel Akanji’s passiveness gave André Hahn all the time in the world to shoot and score past Hitz. He then had an unfortunate slip soon after, which nearly led to another good chance for Augsburg. Fortunately for him, his defending improved in the second half as he made a couple of good interceptions to prevent Augsburg attacks.

Mats Hummels (6/10)

Mats Hummels had things control for the large part and was on the ball a fair bit in Dortmund’s build-up play. Like the rest of the team, he improved after conceding the first goal. Although he will not be too pleased with the ease at which he lost the aerial duel for Augsburg’s goal.

Raphael Guerreiro (7.5/10)

It should come as no surprise that the best player in the back four against Augsburg was Raphael Guerreiro. His dynamism grew as the match went on. His contributions in the second half allowed the attack to thrive in quality and quantity. An outstanding pass by the Portuguese international opened the way for Dortmund’s second goal of the evening, which was scored by Jadon Sancho.

Guerreiro played a total of five key passes and got into dangerous positions throughout the 90 minutes. After a couple of disappointing performances, it was great to see the Borussia Dortmund left back show his world class quality once again.
