Emre Can (5.5/10)

Emre Can showed his versatility once again by filling in at right-back. The German international was largely solid at the back and showed good determination in going forward. Just as he did against Freiburg, he constantly took on the Hoffenheim defenders through the right flank before cutting inside looking for a teammate or a shot on goal. The final touch often lacked the desired quality, but that can be said about almost every Dortmund player at the moment.

Manuel Akanji (4/10)

It is safe to say that Akanji had a tough time against the dangerous strike duo of Bebou and Dabbur. He looked quite shaky in the first half, especially in the 17th minute when Ihlas Bebou got past him and engaged with Marwin Hitz on a 1v1 chance for the visitors.

Fortunately for Dortmund, Hitz made the save. He also lost sight of Dabbur and was attracted towards the ball in the build-up to Hoffenheim’s equaliser.

Mats Hummels (4.5/10)

Just like his fellow centre-back, Mats Hummels wasn’t on his best today. Perhaps his performance can better described as a bit of a roller coaster ride. At times he made precise clearances and on other occasions he mistimed tackles that almost ended up on goals. It is safe to say that Ihlas Bebou was a headache for the Dortmund defenders, and Hummels (despite winning some important duels), did not always look assured.

Raphael Guerreiro (6/10)

Raphael Guerreiro’s quick game and accurate passing gave Borussia Dortmund a breath of fresh air in the first half against Hoffenheim. His ability spaces in the final third where most players would simply pass the ball backwards resulted in several decent openings. Guerreiro set up Jadon Sancho who scored the opener, and also created an excellent chance for Haaland. He did forget his defensive duties on a few occasions though, and moved into midfield in the second half.
