What Does Dortmund Need This Next Season? Twitter Q&A
2. From @BVBMan09
First, Dortmund doesn’t always play with a back-four. But, when the do, they have been arguably a better side. The reason being is that when Dortmund gets numbers forward, the back-four provides a bit more stability against opposing team’s counter-attack. After watching the two matches against Monaco, it goes without saying how important a good counter-attack defense is.
Toprak, in his time in the Bundesliga, has been a solid defender. The true question will be, “is Toprak an upgrade over Bartra?”
Bartra edges Toprak on passing ability and speed, but the Turk edges the Spaniard on physicality and aerial defending. It will be curious to see what Tuchel will do with Toprak.
In this transfer season, there are a lot of youngsters that Dortmund could go out and get. But, I believe that youngsters like Dembele and Pulisic will turn into elite wingers. Therefore, it may be in Dortmund’s best interest to hold off on buying an elite winger.
