Aubameyang Wins Bundesliga’s Golden Boot Award
After bagging a brace yesterday against Werder Bremen, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was awarded the Bundesliga Golden Boot award as the league’s highest goal scorer on the year.
Before yesterday’s match, Aubameyang trailed the former Dortmund man by one goal. Before the game, members of the media were wondering if Tuchel would try to help Aubameyang earn the Golden Boot.
Tuchel didn’t let the media know what Dortmund’s plans were heading into the match.
After Aubameyang had got his first of the game to put Dortmund up at halftime, he and Lewandowski had 30 goals apiece on the season. Lewandowski didn’t find the net in Munich for the entire ninety minutes, thus leaving the door open for the man from Gabon.
After Dortmund had won a penalty late in the match, Aubameyang got his chance. Oddly enough, with Dortmund at that time tying with Werder Bremen at 3-3, Reus did not take the penalty. This penalty is especially strange as he took the one a few minutes before and confidently slotted it home.
Regardless of how and why it happened, Aubameyang took his chance and calmly scored his 31st goal of the season. As time expired at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund players ran to jump on Batman, leaving Aubameyang in tears.
It was a brilliant ending to a great season by Aubameyang. With 31 goals on the year, interest from around Europe will be high for Aubameyang.
Since earning his Golden Boot Award, Aubameyang has made no comments about his future with the club. For Dortmund’s sake, keeping Aubameyang would help them avoid trying to find a replacement for 31 goals on the year in the Bundesliga.
