Three Takeaways From Your Borussia Dortmund Starting XI
This afternoon on Twitter, we asked you who you think should start at every position for Dortmund next season. After a few hours of polling, here is your Starting XI.
In an article a few weeks ago, our own Aidan Reagh predicted what Peter Bosz’ lineup would look like. When comparing the two lineups, they are almost identical. The only difference is at right-back, where Aidan suggested Matthias Ginter over Łukasz Piszczek.
Looking at the grand scheme of things, what can we take away from this lineup? After some thought, here are three things that Dortmund fans can take away from these suggestions.
Ginter Out
A popular hashtag over the past few months has been #WengerOut. After our recent polls, maybe that needs to be changed to #GinterOut.
Ginter is a young German talent that hasn’t developed into an elite player like many other youngsters on Dortmund’s roster. This slow growth, partnered with multiple vital errors in matches, has led Dortmund fans to encourage that Ginter moves to the bench or out of Dortmund.
Will Ginter leave Dortmund soon? Probably not. What is certain, however, is that fans aren’t too happy with the developing German.
Gotze & Kagawa Is Too Close to Call (If Gotze is Healthy)
It is truly tragic that Mario Gotze is still fighting for his career due to his current career-threatening illness. If the World Cup-winner can come back to form, he may earn back a spot in the Dortmund Starting XI.
For the time being, that tragically doesn’t seem to be the case. If Gotze isn’t healthy, Shinji Kagawa will get the nod. Since coming back from Manchester United, Kagawa hasn’t been his old self. But, every week, Kagawa seems to be putting back the pieces together in return to prime foreign.
The best scenario for Dortmund is that both players return to form and can compete for a spot in the midfield. If both are healthy, it will be hard to tell who will get the starting job.
Pulisic Needs Playing Time
For the record, Christian Pulisic is the best American player right now in the world at the ripe age of 19. Since 20-year-old French sensation, Ousmane Dembélé has secured the right-wing position, Pulisic wouldn’t get a starting spot in most cases. Fortunately for Pulisic, the beginning of next season isn’t similar to most cases.
With Marco Reus out until 2018 and Andre Schurrle still recovering from injury, there is a good chance Pulisic will get the nod at left-wing to start the season. If that is the case, get ready Dortmund fans because this teenager is eager to become the next big thing.
