Borussia Dortmund FIFA 18 ratings predictions: Midfielders

With FIFA 18, the world-famous football game, set to be released later this month, it’s time to look at the possible ratings for our Dortmund stars.

After a solid season which ended with a DFB Pokal title and a quarterfinal run in the Champions League, Dortmund will be expected to receive a couple of upgrades on the famous Ultimate Team game mode. So here is a look at the rating predictions for Borussia Dortmund’s midfielders.

As the fulcrum of one of the most potent offenses in all of Europe, Julian Wiegl is surely in for a ratings boost. He is arguably the most important player in the Dortmund side as he sets the tempo for the match, often completing the most passes on the field. He also completed 89% of his passes, higher than any other midfielder on the team. Last year Wiegl was originally rated at a 79, but was then bumped up to an 80. While he is not the most flashy player, he is surely due for a steady increase for years to come.

Overall Rating: 82

Sahin was once considered one of the best midfielders in the world, earning a move to Real Madrid. But injuries prevented him from fulfilling his potential there. Unfortunately injuries followed him on his return to Dortmund, as he hasn’t been able to play on a consistent basis. Last year he was rated at 80 overall, but also received an inform card rated 83 after getting a run of games in. His talent is undeniable, but his injuries have forever kept him from increasing his rating consistently. However, after beginning this season in incredible form, Sahin is due for a small upgrade.

Overall Rating: 81

Now moving on to Dortmund supporters’ favorite punching bag, Sebastian Rode. Rode doesn’t even play much, but often gets criticized harshly whenever he does. Though Rode sometimes puts in a solid performance, he seems to never be able to win over the hearts of the fans or the manager. The former Bayern player received an 80 rating last year, but expect a downgrade due to lack of playing time.

Dortmund’s new boy has everyone excited. Finally the black and yellows have an apparent heir to Ilkay Gundogan’s throne. Dahoud is a great FIFA player to use because he is quick with his dribbles and can slice through the opponents’ midfield. The young German recently received an 80 overall rating, and is surely due for an upgrade after his big move to Dortmund. He is another young player whose ratings should continuously increase for years to come, especially if he improves upon his 3 goals and 7 assists of last season.

Overall Rating: 81

Kagawa is another player who returned to Dortmund after failing to shine at a bigger club. Shinji was an integral part of the team in 2015/16 under Thomas Tuchel, earning himself an 83 overall rating in FIFA 17. His quickness and sharp passing make him a exciting player to play with. He is a great number 10 to have in your team. However, as Dortmund moved away from playing with a traditional attacking mid, Shinji saw his minutes diminish. He featured in 21 games last year, a decrease from his 29 of the year previous. Expect a small downgrade for the Japanese star.

Castro has never been the most flashy player, but he found himself getting consistent playing time under Tuchel and now Bosz. He featured in 28 matches in 2016/17, the most of any midfielder besides Weigl, who played in 30 games. He always did his job, and picked up 6 goals and 8 assists along the way. Not bad for a box to box midfielder. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the 30 year old pick up one last FIFA upgrade.

Overall Rating: 83

Last but not least, it’s Germany’s golden boy, Mario Gotze. Again, another world class talent who returned to Dortmund after failing to make his mark elsewhere. Gotze’s talent is extraordinary, but due to his unfortunate metabolic disorder, which was only diagnosed last year, Gotze has seen his form and FIFA rating be on the steady decline. He featured in only 14 games for Dortmund last season. Gotze is probably in for another downgrade from his 84 rating, but has shown very promising performances so far this season, so this rating could increase over time.
