1. Because Dortmund really need to win

While this isn’t a ‘must win’ game, it is likely a ‘mustn’t lose’ game. Der BVB can’t afford to not pick up a single point after two Champions League fixtures. It will be a daunting test, but Dortmund have proven to be strong when their backs were forced against the wall. Fans will remember the resilient performance they put in last year against Benfica in the round of 16 and the huge cup win against Munich in the DFB Cup Semifinals.

Not to mention the familiarity between the two teams will work in Dortmund’s favor. They seem to face each other more often than not in the Champions League. Every match has been nothing short of immaculate, creating a beautiful rivalry that the world enjoys to watch. Some of Dortmund’s greatest matches have been played against Real Madrid, including their 4-1 victory in the 2013 Champions League Semifinals.

Also, Der BVB is currently the only team Zinedine Zidane has faced and failed to ever beat. Whether this narrative will stay true come Wednesday remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, it will undoubtedly be a wild ride. So knock on wood Dortmund fans, Tuesday’s match may just prove to be one of the most important matches of the season.
