How Ancelotti’s departure will affect Borussia Dortmund

Now we must look at the situation in terms of its consequences for Borussia Dortmund. For the time being, Bayern are in a limbo. The new interim manager Willy Sagnol is a former Bayern Munich player. He knows the Bayern system in and out, but may not be ready to take on the duties of being a permanent manager. Hopefully for Borussia Dortmund, this will cause the Munich team to drop more points in the Bundesliga.

The list of managers on the market fit for a team like Bayern are few and far between. As of right now, there seem to be only two logical solutions, neither of which sound good for Borussia Dortmund.

Julian Nagelsmann

The logical solution is Hoffenheim’s current manager. Nagelsmann has created a formidable team with the players he has received at Hoffenheim. Not only that, but he has shown to be capable of replacing stars, with Jeremy Toljan leaving the squad for Borussia Dortmund.

Nagelsmann took Hoffenheim to 4th place in the Bundesliga last season, and he is still a very young manager, indicating that he has a long career ahead of him. The young German is able to develop young players, something that Bayern Munich desperately needs right now.

This could create a strong Bayern squad that would definitely be superior to Dortmund. If Nagelsmann is able to create trouble for Dortmund at Hoffenheim, how much harder would he be to defeat as manager of Bayern Munich?

Thomas Tuchel

The appointment of Thomas Tuchel to Bayern Munich would sting the fans of Der BVB. Tuchel was sacked days after delivering the DFB Pokal to Dortmund. Tuchel is also a great manager who would fit in at Bayern simply because of his ability to work with young players. Ousmane Dembele is perhaps his crowning achievement.

In the Bayern dugout, we will no doubt see Tuchel deploy younger sides in order to develop the players. The Bavarians would have their lineups set for years from now, something Dortmund definitely doesn’t want to see.

On the other hand, Tuchel had problems with Dortmund bosses. And Bayern’s out-spoken hierarchy could make it hard for him to do his job. Tuchel also fell-out with support staff, players and even some fans during his time at Dortmund. He could have similar problems if Bayern appoint him.

Thomas Tuchel has also recently turned down an opportunity to manage West Ham United in England. BILD reports that Bayern have Tuchel in their sights. Only time will tell.

Either way, Borussia Dortmund will profit for a short time while Bayern are in managerial disarray. After that, we can only hope Peter Bosz will turn Borussia Dortmund into a better squad than Bayern Munich.
