5 free agents Borussia Dortmund should consider signing

Borussia Dortmund are known for having a very good squad depth. Despite the important injuries of Marco Reus, Julian Weigl, and Raphael Guerreiro, Dortmund are still one of the toughest Bundesliga teams. Following is a list of 5 free agents Dortmund should consider signing before the winter transfer window.

Benoit Tremoulinas

The French left-back has been solid anywhere he has played at. The French international has been surprisingly without a team since early March. He was unavailable last season after suffering a knee injury. The veteran played 37 games in the 15/16 season. Yes, I know Tremoulinas is not young, in fact, he is 31 years old and it seems as if his knee injury is thing of the past. Currently in Dortmund Schmelzer is still out which means that Toljan is playing left back, his backup is the center back Dan Axel Zagadou. Considering the tightness of Dortmund’s schedule, bringing in a talented and experienced left back can be considered the best move possible.

Silvio

The 30-year-old Portuguese right-back has had a decent career playing for top clubs. He suffered an injury-plagued season last year, only playing only 5 games all season. The veteran right-back has played for top clubs such as Benfica and Atletico Madrid. He should join Dortmund just because we need another right back option apart from Piszczek. Our Polish legend is playing very regular and at this pace, it would be a surprise to see him finish games. His old age is starting to show and is making silly mistakes time and time again. A new option could help Dortmund considering Silvio can also play left back.

Jan Kirchhoff

The 26-year-old German has had plenty of experience in the Bundesliga with top teams such as Schalke and Bayern Munich. Recently Kirchhoff played for Premier League side Sunderland helping them escape relegation in the 15/16 season. Last year he was limited to just 11 games after suffering a cartilage and hamstring injuries. If he joins Dortmund he will form a part of a pretty stacked midfield group but he could easily excel and even earn some playing time. Besides, Dortmund do not have many defensive minded players and having Kirchoff could help them concede less goals.

Daniel Akpa-Akpro

The 24-year-old Akpa Akpro has been left without a contract after an injury-plagued season. The Ivory Coast international played only 2 games after a pelvis injury. Dortmund should definitely give this young lad a second chance since it could be very rewarding. As well as Kirchhoff, he could fight for playing time with the team on a very stacked midfield.

Giuseppe Rossi

Italian veteran striker Giuseppe Rossi could prove to be a solid signing for Borussia Dortmund. The 30-year-old has played for clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle, Villarreal, and Fiorentina. Currently, the big man is finishing recovering from an injury but once he is back to his 100% he is a proven clinical striker. Last year he scored 6 goals before going down injured. The main reason to why I want him at Dortmund is simply because we need a backup striker. I honestly don’t believe Isak is ready to start games, so a veteran striker could replace Aubameyang from time to time.
