4. The high-pressing system needs to be ditched for big games

The high pressing system that has been employed by Dortmund manager Peter Bosz in all the games so far this season has been a much talked about topic. While the system has largely worked in the Bundesliga, it has also led to the club’s nightmare start in the UEFA Champions League.

Their 3-1 losses to both Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid could have been avoided without the high-pressing tactic that Bosz used. The problems with the system were further visible last weekend in Dortmund’s 2-1 win against Augsburg. In the second-half, Peter Bosz’ side looked out of sorts and played with no discipline which gave Augsburg chances to come back into the game.

While Dortmund won that game, questions still remain over the fragile system employed by Bosz. Der BVB have already been exposed twice in Champions League games. And it’s high time that Peter Bosz ditches the system. Especially for big games so his side don’t taste further misery due to their high-line.
