5 reasons why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will win the Golden Boot
By Oliver Campo
Last year, BVB’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on a goal scoring frenzy and was making a huge splash to become the Bundesliga top goal scorer. Aubameyang finds himself aiming for his best form while at Borussia Dortmund this season. He could even take home a striker’s biggest prize, the Golden Boot.
Borussia Dortmund star striker Aubameyang was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last year with a total of 31 goals. It was no easy feat to beat out Robert Lewandowski for that accolade, with the difference being just one goal. Unfortunately, the goals Aubameyang scored placed him third overall for the Golden Boot, losing to Bas Dost and Lionel Messi (the eventual winner).
The Golden Boot operates on two factors, goals scored and league difficulty (range from 1-2). The goals are then multiplied by the league difficulty, creating a point total that ranks the player. For this perspective, the Bundesliga is at a difficulty of 2, making each goal scored worth double the points. As of this writing, Aubameyang has 20 points and tied for 8th place with 2 other players.
With a range of strikers all across Europe aiming for the prize, Aubameyang faces stiff competition. Lionel Messi, Radamel Falcao and former BVB center-forward Ciro Immobile are currently in the top 5. Take a look at what separates Aubameyang from the rest.
