Hannover 96 vs Borussia Dortmund: Player Ratings; BVB season derailed against newly promoted side
This was an abysmal game for Peter Bosz as he watched his side collapse against the recently promoted Hannover 96 conceding 4 goals. Here are the player ratings from what could be the beginning of the end for BVB’s season:
Roman Burki (5/10):
One look at the scoreline will reveal how Burki performed on the night. Despite not being at fault for them all, the Swiss should have done more to protect the goal. Despite a decent distribution rate, the goalkeeper lacked the extra special to keep opposition shots at bay.
Marc Bartra (6.5/10):
One of the better performers on the field. Despite dominating in the air (6 aerial duels won), Bartra’s passing was poor and ineffective. Operating on the right in an unfamiliar role, Bartra was reduced to being a piece of furniture on the right that merely circulated the ball. The Catalan made the most of it by making 4 tackles, but was unfortunately not good enough.
Sokratis (6/10):
Poor showing. Strong in the air with 5 aerial duels won but failed to contain the attack and got caught out of position quite some times.
Dan-Axel Zagadou (7/10):
It would be unfair to say that Zagadou had a poor performance because of his red card. The French centre-back was absolutely dominating the pitch during his time on the field and led Dortmund through example by opening the BVB account from a corner. With a 74% pass completion rate and 6 aerial duels won, Zagadou imposed himself in attack and defence.
Marcel Schmelzer (6/10):
Decent in build-up play but invisible on the defensive side, Schmelzer was nowhere to be seen when his side needed his help.
Nuri Sahin (7/10):
Acting as the midfield Linchpin, Sahin had another excellent performance as he gave Dortmund the stability needed to let the attacking players flourish. The chances were few but Sahin did the best he could with what he had.
Mario Gotze (6/10):
Gotze has made some big claims in the past few weeks about being back to his best but the German failed to offer an attacking outlet despite receiving the ball on several occasions.
G. Castro (6/10):
A drop from the Pokal game, Castro was impressive in defence but ineffective in attack, and rightfully subbed off for Kagawa at half-time.
Yarmolenko (8/10):
Probably the best performer for BVB, Yarmolenko scored a goal to bring BVB level at 2-2. With 2 shots on target, Yarmolenko cemented his place in the starting XI ahead of a certain Gabon international that we will talk about very soon.
C. Pulisic (7/0):
Playing on the left, Pulisic completed an incredible 7 dribbles on the night nd tried hard to create something out of nothing. It didn’t work for him though and the forward was left with just one shot on target.
Aubameyang (6/10):
Aubameyang is having a bad patch. Period. He needs to be dropped. The striker managed just one shot which was way too wide to trouble the keeper. Forced to play a little deeper, Aubameyang continued to be deprived of supply and chose to link play up for his other forwards.
S. Kagawa (6/10):
Subbed on for Castro at half-time, Kagawa brought in greater control through midfield despite not having the necessary creativity to force the ball through the opposition defence.
R. Guerreiro (6/10):
Subbed in for Nuri Sahin, Guerreiro operated mostly on the left flank and was another disappointment despite being brought on for some added spark.
A. Schurrle (NA):
Too few minutes to rate.
