UEFA Champions League Final 2013

The German clubs came to blows in England at the Wembley Stadium in 2013. The first time such a match would take place between the two side. BVB came in to the match losing to Bayern in the quarter finals of the DFB Pokal. With their Bundesliga hopes ending in a disappointing 2nd place finish, Dortmund needed a win.

Unfortunately for Dortmund, Mario Mandzukic placed a damper on that night in Wembley. While Ilkay Gundogan brought the teams level with a penalty, Arjen Robben sealed the victory for Bayern. The loss would be heartbreaking for BVB as the last goal came in the 89th minute.

Since this match, BVB have failed to make it back to the finals of the UCL. To win the title would be an amazing achievement for the club as a whole. Especially as it has been over 20 years since they last won Europe’s biggest club crown.
