What the Mario Götze injury means to Borussia Dortmund

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Well, in all honesty, it is actually just the worst of times. Borussia Dortmund is in a free fall, their superstar scout is gone, and injuries are still piling up. To make matters even more confusing, club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke still fully supports the continuously failing club manager Peter Bosz. The state of the club is in crisis with no end in sight.

Perhaps the one saving grace and best player BVB had, Mario Götze, is now even sidelined for 6 weeks with a torn ankle tendon. Maybe it’s poetic justice for how the Dortmund season has been up until this point. Regardless, the loss of Mario Götze will have a lasting impact on the short term and perhaps long term ambitions for the club. Here are three things that his injury will have a costly effect on.
