1) Borussia Dortmund lose their best player

The 2016-2017 season was a rough one for Mario. He was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder that saw him make a total of only 11 Bundesliga appearances. This diagnosis perhaps explained why the so called “once in a generation talent” failed to live up to the billing.

Following a lengthy recovery process, Mario seemed to fully recover and return to his best form for the 2017-2018 season. He has continuously been the lone shining light of inspiration in an often times dreary Dortmund side.

With Götze sidelined, the club will most likely look towards Gonzalo Castro to fill the void. Castro has shown he is a capable player, but is often inconsistent and lacks the offensive creativity that Götze has. For a team who has only scored more than 2 goals in a game twice since September, Dortmund will struggle even more without the creativity of Götze.
