The January transfer window is upon us and Borussia Dortmund are expected to be involved heavily as they look to improve their squad.

With Dortmund no longer in the title race, they might shift their focus on the Europa League. But with the added fixtures, the club will need a greater strength in depth, which is currently missing.

While the likes of Marco Reus, Mario Gotze, Maximilian Philipp and Gonzalo Castro will return from injury after the winter break, Borussia Dortmund still need to improve their squad this winter.

Dortmund have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks. And there are a number of issues that the club need to address ahead of the season restart, including in the middle of defense and up front.

So here is a look at five players they should target in the January transfer window.
