The winter transfer window is a time to make panic buys and overpay for players, thus the ideal scenario for Dortmund is to stand pat. Getting players like Marco Reus and Lucas Piszczek back from injury will help both the attack and the defense. Spending money in the winter window would be a waste of funds.

Unless the return of Henrik Mkhitaryan becomes a a realistic scenario. Mkhitaryan’s return means a talented addition to the squad and boost to the attack, but also would provide a boost in morale for both the players and the fans.

The top four and Europa league are Dortmund’s remaining goals, and Dortmund’s squad when healthy is talented enough to finish in the top four of the league and win the Europa league. The better planning and purchases are made in the summer anyway, plus who knows if Peter Stoger will still be around at the start of next season.

Buying players to Stoger’s liking or to fit in his system would be a waste of funds if he is not the permanent manager at the start of next season.
