Alexander Isak will be disappointed to see playing time lost to Michy Batshuayi.

21) Alexander Isak

Isak looked at the opportunity given to him by Peter Stöger and failed to make the most of it. It is harsh to say he wasted those starts, but he did not perform well in those games at all. Isak needs to find the back of the net when he is on the field if he wants to share time with Batshuayi.

20) Andriy Yarmolenko

Yarmolenko under Peter Bosz is almost the same under Peter Stöger. The difference is Stöger is taking playtime away from the Ukraine International. The last goal he scored was against Bayern in December. Since that time, he still has yet to perform at a top-tier level with Borussia Dortmund. He is currently out injured, and some would say that his injury has come as a blessing in disguise, with Andre Schurrle performing so well.

19) Gonzalo Castro

Gonzalo Castro is in a fight for play time and it is one he is consistently losing. Various lackluster performances when playing will force him on to the bench more often. Castro has yet to experience a breakout performance this season. Another ordinary performance last night in the Europa League left fans bewildering the decision to start him. This will need to be addressed as the summer comes up.

18) Nuri Sahin

Nuri Sahin is in a similar boat to Castro. He has slipped in the pecking order a lot when Peter Bosz left. Also, he is partly responsible for an awful goal against Freiburg which still leaves a bad taste for the end of January. He will probably stay at Dortmund, but do not expect him to get much play time.

Nuri Sahin and Sokratis wanted the goal over turned from Frieburg, but both were unsuccessful.

17) Raphael Guerreiro

Raphael Guerreiro’s return from injury did not impress that much. The Portuguese international has missed a lot of time this season with injury, and now he is injured again. And when he has played, he has failed to impress too much. His failure to often track back makes him a liability at times. Without more time on the field, Guerreiro’s form could spiral downwards.

16) Marcel Schmelzer

Marcel Schmelzer and Borussia Dortmund enjoy a fruitful relationship. This year happens to be one of Schmelzer’s worse years due to injury though. He has played a total of 15 matches, and the amount of time he is missing is concerning. Jeremy Toljan has enjoyed a mixed bag so far in his absence, but after his dismal performance last night, Schmelzer’s return cannot come quickly enough.
