After a convincing win against VfB Stuttgart last weekend, the black and yellows face the royal blues on Sunday. Borussia Dortmund will be looking to beat Schalke to jump into second place and increase their chances of playing in the Champions League next season.

Borussia Dortmund will want to forget the last Revierderby and focus on beating their rivals away from home this time around. Both teams are looking to finish in the top four in the Bundesliga and need every remaining point left on the schedule. The atmosphere should be electric this Sunday, and many consider this the most important Revierderby in a few years.

Last Match: VfB Stuttgart 0 Borussia Dortmund 3

Analysis: The black and yellows looked awful for the first thirty-five minutes, but they turned it around in the second half. They wore out VfB Stuttgart, and limited them to very few chances. Borussia Dortmund’s attacking play proved their quality up front, and it lead to a lot of chances in the second half. The score line could have been higher, but Borussia Dortmund can gain some confidence from this win.

Last Match: Schalke 2 Hamburg 3

Analysis: Schalke have been in great form lately. They may have been beaten by Hamburg in the last match, but they have won six of their last seven. One goal by each side early in the match saw them level at halftime. The second half was a completely different story though, and a lot of spaces were opened leading to more goals. The final score line was negative for the royal blues, but fans know that past games do not matter much in derby games.

Opposition Star- Leon Goretzka

Borussia Dortmund fans will learn to dislike Goretzka, especially after he moves to Bayern Munich this summer. The center midfielder has shown to be vital in the royal blues buildup. His partnership with Max Meyer has allowed Schalke to dominate the midfield at some points during the season. Even though his form has dipped recently, expect Goretzka to have a big impact on Sunday’s game.

Last Match – Schalke 4 Borussia Dortmund 4

Borussia Dortmund will want to forget the last time they faced Schalke. The black and yellows blew a 4-0 lead to have the match end 4-4. This was the nail in the coffin for Borussia Dortmund sacking Peter Bosz. The game was very open to attacking play in the first half for Borussia Dortmund, and they scored four times in the first twenty-five minutes. Moreover, Schalke came out hungry in the second half and managed to level the score, while Borussia Dortmund searched for answers.
