Will Schmelzer return to left back this week?

One mistake can cost a lost in any match. One mistake may have cost Schmelzer his role in the starting lineup. As talked about last week, the defense needs to be alert and organized at all times. Stöger agreed as Schmelzer was spotted in the stands during the Leverkusen match. It was a move that worked in almost everyone’s favor, except Schmelzer.

Schmelzer has been with Borussia Dortmund for his entire senior career. At 30 years old, the long-standing left back for BVB is having a bad season. All in all, Schmelzer’s first team position is in jeopardy now. After a master class performance in left back last week, Akanji is expected to start over Schmelzer again.

It is reasonable to see the German international available on the bench against Bremen, but without better performances, there is not much that can be done. Soccer is like all sports, result driven. Schmelzer may consider leaving this summer if he can’t get play time. He is easily a practical choice for quite a few clubs in the Bundesliga.
