Borussia Dortmund enjoy commercial success in the United States
By Oliver Campo
Borussia Dortmund players started the summer on high notes. Few enjoyed the World Cup in Russia and a few scored in the International Champions Cup. This tour was the club’s biggest chance to increase its presence overseas and it was a success.
LAFC (Los Angeles FC)
Starting in May, just little after the Bundesliga season ended, Borussia Dortmund traveled to Los Angeles, California to play a friendly against new MLS club Los Angeles FC. The Black and Yellows walked away with a 1-1 draw against a side that featured Mexican International Carlos Vela.
That wasn’t the only thing the two clubs have accomplished this year though. LAFC leaned on Borussia Dortmund in many ways, going as far as to create their own Yellow Wall so to speak. Officially it is called the 3252, but it would appear the supporters are creating a similar atmosphere in the stadium.
The Dortmund players may not have enjoyed the trip on short notice, but this was important in laying down the groundwork for the upcoming season for LAFC and Borussia Dortmund getting familiar with the states prior to the ICC.
