Roman Burki

The Swiss keeper is inconsistent but his position in the squad was barely challenged in the past couple of seasons. He’s expected to return as first choice and that’s not a bad thing. Dortmund has bet on keepers who can act as stop-gap solutions in case Burki fails to find his feet.

Marwin Hitz

Hitz is probably the second choice keeper at this point but his preseason performances have really improved his chances of usurping his countryman Roman Burki for the top spot. Hitz is in his prime at 30-years-old and his move to BVB on a free transfer means that any good performances that the coach can get from him will be a bonus.

Eric Oelschlagel

This young German keeper has the profile necessary to be a solid option between the sticks. At 22-years-old and standing at a towering 193cm, Oelschlägel can fill in the gap of a third-choice should the need arise. His contract is only for a year and it will be curious to see if he can earn minutes on the pitch and earn himself a longer contract.
