Thomas Delaney (7/10)

Position: CM

Delaney is a good player. You will not see him do anything spectacular but he will bring the necessary energy to press and hound the opposition midfielders during their spells of possession. Delaney is a work-horse and that’s about it. He will not create or do the spectacular. At best, he will add steel to the midfield when required. However, it is a signing that Dortmund desperately needed. Sebastian Rode, who is the closest profile to Delaney’s in the squad is perennially injured and there’s no one else who can play that role without compromising on their primary strengths. Dahoud was an option but he seems to have taken a more advanced position under Favre and that makes Delaney a vital piece of the midfield puzzle.

Was the transfer fee a little excessive? Perhaps. But will he be useful to the team? Absolutely.
