Roman Weidenfeller says goodbye to Borussia Dortmund with testimonial

Borussia Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller was given the perfect send-off as 70,000 turned up to watch his farewell match at the Signal Iduna Park.
Roman Weidenfeller marked the end of his illustrious playing career by scoring twice on his testimonial match. The goalkeeper was joined by several of his former teammates and rivals in what was a star studded affair at the Signal Iduna Park. Borussia Dortmund All Stars won the game, beating “Roman and Friends” 4-1.
It was a special occassion at the Westfalenstadion as some of the biggest names in German football gathered together to celebrate the career of the legendary Dortmund goalkeeper. Some of the notable guests included Sebastian Kehl, Patrick Owomoyela, Felipe Santana, Dede, Jens Lehmann, Kevin Großkreutz, Christoph Metzelder, Per Mertesacker and Michael Ballack.
Former Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp also made his return to the dugout, as he took charge of the Borussia Dortmund All Stars. While Peter Stöger took charge of “Roman and Friends”.
But all eyes were on one man only: Roman Weidenfeller. And the legendary goalkeeper finally got his first goal, two decades after making his professional debut. In the second half, Weidenfeller sprinted down the pitch and found the back of the net for the All Stars. He then got his second goal from a penalty kick in the 90th minute.
Alexander Frei and Mohamed Zidan also scored for the Dortmund All Stars, while Lukas Podolski netted one for Roman and Friends.
Over 70,000 Borussia Dortmund fans got to see their former heroes take to the field once again. And they were in fine voice as they got the chance to thank Roman Weidenfeller for his 16 years of quality service. The 38 year old had a permanent grin on his face and he is sure to remember this evening forever. Weidenfeller enjoyed an illustrious career with Borussia Dortmund, and his testimonial was a grandiose and well deserved tribute to him.
