Borussia Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the Lucien Favre era on Tuesday, as Atletico Madrid beat them 2-0. Despite their loss, the Black and Yellows will be confident going into Saturday’s Der Klassiker. Dortmund have won seven and drawn three of their Bundesliga matches so far, scoring 30 goals and conceding just ten in the process. They have also won six of their seven matches at the Westfalenstadion so far and will be aiming to add another win to their tally on Saturday.
Marcel Schmelzer and Abdou Diallo are expected to miss out for Borussia Dortmund, but other than that Lucien Favre has a fully fit squad to choose from. Dortmund currently hold a four point advantage at the top of the table and a positive result against Bayern will be massive as they look to challenge for the Bundesliga title.
Bayern Munich

Despite winning four of their last five matches in all competitions, Bayern Munich find themselves in a tricky situation. Die Roten are four points behind Borussia Dortmund and things are not looking rosy for the defending champions. The club have been embroiled in several controversies off the pitch this season, which has hampered their performances on the pitch. They were held to a 1-1 draw by tenth placed Freiburg at home last weekend and go into this weekend’s Der Klassiker as slight underdogs.
Bayern will be without Thiago, Corentin Tolisso and Kinglsey Coman on Saturday, while Arjen Robben did not train today and remains a doubt. Defeat for Bayern could see them slip to fifth place in the Bundesliga standings, and could mark the end of manager Niko Kovac’s reign.
Last Match: Bayern Munich 6-0 Borussia Dortmund
The previous clash between the two teams saw Bayern Munich trounce Borussia Dortmund 6-0. Jupp Heynckes’ men raced to a five goal lead before half time, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a brace. The former Dortmund striker completed his hattrick in the second half to hand Borussia Dortmund their highest defeat in a competitive match in 27 years.
