The spirit of 2011 is back

A youthful squad, playing with confidence and without fear, hungry to win things and achieve success. Sound familiar? These were some of the hallmarks of Jurgen Klopp’s all conquering side in 2011. And the current Dortmund squad also possesses these qualities.

Lukasz Piszczek said after the game against Bayern Munich that he can see many similarities between the current Dortmund team and the 2011 team which won the Bundesliga title. And considering that he has been at the club since 2010, the veteran right back knows best.

There are many similarities between the current team and the 2011 team but the spirit and belief are what stand out. These two attributes had been missing at Borussia Dortmund since the end of the Jurgen Klopp era. But this season they have found it back.

No matter who features, you know that the players will give it their all and fight for the team, rather than for themselves. Individual interests hurt the team last season, but now all the players are playing for the team. Even when the team is down, the players never give up and fight till the very end. Dortmund have produced many sensational comebacks already this season, and that is down to the fighting spirit and togetherness that the current crop of players have.
