The international break is almost over and Borussia Dortmund return to action this weekend hoping to build on their breathtaking start to the season.

Borussia Dortmund will play a total of eight games in two competitions in the next 30 days, before German football stops for the 28 day long winter break. How Lucien Favre’s men fare in the next eight games could determine how well they are going to do for the rest of the season. The Black and Yellows currently hold a four point cushion at the top of the Bundesliga standings and are also sitting at the top of their Champions League group.

Dortmund’s first match following the international break will see them visit FSV Mainz (November 24). Die Nullfünfer are currently ninth in the league table after back to back wins against Werder Bremen and Freiburg, and they could prove to be a tricky opponent for Borussia Dortmund.

Champions League then football returns to the Westfalenstadion as Borussia Dortmund host Club Brugge (November 28). Der BVB only need a draw to secure their place in the knockout rounds but will be hoping to get all three points to maintain their chances of finishing top of the group.

Borussia Dortmund then host SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on December 01. Christian Streich’s side pulled off a 1-1 draw away to Bayern Munich at the start of the month, so Dortmund cannot afford to take them too lightly.

Following that is the all important Revierderby on December 08. With Schalke 04, languishing in 14th place in the Bundesliga standings, Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to to inflict further damage on their local rivals when the two sides meet at the Arena AufSchalke.

Lucien Favre’s side then travel to AS Monaco for the final game of the Champions League group stage (December 11). Thierry Henry’s side have only one point from four games so far and Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to end the group stage with another victory.

Attentions will then once again turn to the Bundesliga as we head into the final week of the first half of the season. Borussia Dortmund host Werder Bremen on December 15, with the two sides also set to face off in the third round of the DFB-Pokal in February. Bremen started the season brilliantly but have lost their last three games in the Bundesliga and lie seventh in the table. The game will also be the homecoming of Nuri Sahin, who left Borussia Dortmund to join Werder Bremen in the summer.

Der BVB then travel to newly promoted side Fortuna Düsseldorf (December 18), who are currently joint bottom, having won just two of their first 11 matches. If Dortmund are on their game, this should be a comfortable win for them.
