Left Back

Left Back is yet another position I believe Borussia Dortmund should give some thought towards this January. Like with striker, the depth regarding left back is very frail. Our options have been limited, with Marcel Schmelzer out injured since September due to an ankle fracture. Even though injuries have troubled him this season, Schmelzer has also lost his pace and is no longer as reliable as he was a few years ago.

Favre has tried to fill the void with Abdou Diallo, Achraf Hakimi and Raphaël Guerreiro taking turns filling this position. Considering that Diallo was purchased to play centre back, Hakimi to play right back and Guerreiro continues to find himself in multiple positions, it’s safe to say we don’t have a player that has locked this position down as their own. Hence, let’s look at a couple options that may be able to fill this position.
