Here is the entire breakdown of who the Black and Yellows could face in the next round of the Champions League.

Lucien Favre has managed to heal the wounds from last season as Borussia Dortmund head into Monday’s draw as one of the group winners. The Black and Yellows won four of their six games, drawing one and losing away to Atletico Madrid. Roman Burki kept 4 clean sheets in 5 matches, conceding only twice in the entire group stage.

Sealing the top spot in the group stages has ensured that Dortmund will avoid some of the big teams in the Round of 16. Here is the list of the teams we could face in the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas Moura’s 86th-minute strike ensured that Spurs sealed their spot in the Round of 16 for the second consecutive season. Borussia Dortmund would get the chance to take revenge for last season if they are drawn against the London club in the Round of 16. Tottenham managed to defeat the Black and Yellows twice last season, forcing them to play in the Europa League. Led by the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, Tottenham are a team that can cause problems to any side in the world.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s side booked a ticket to the Round of 16 thanks to a 1-0 win over Napoli on Matchday six. Liverpool have been impressive in the English Premier League this season and sit on the top of the table at the moment. Once again, there is some recent history between them and Der BVB. Borussia Dortmund were defeated by Liverpool in the 15/16 Europa League quarter-finals, thanks to a late goal from Dejan Lovren. Liverpool have one of the best attacking forces in Europe at the moment, and a clash between them and Dortmund would certainly be a mouth watering affair.

Ajax

The Dutch side has been the surprise package in the Champions League so far this season. Ajax entered the tournament in the third qualifying round and are the only playoff team to still remain in the competition. Ajax came up against our league rivals Bayern Munich in the group stages and managed to pick up two draws, which pretty impressive. Ajax have some really bright talents in their team and could prove to be a tricky opponent for any side.

Lyon

Bruno Genesio’s side stayed unbeaten in the group stage but managed to pick up only one win, which came on the opening day against Manchester City. They aren’t having a wonderful time in the Ligue 1, sitting in fourth place, way behind Paris Saint Germain. Defence has been an area of concern for Lyon and they will be looking to make some adjustment in the winter transfer window. But they do some very talented attacking players, as Manchester City found out in the group stage.

Roma

Last season’s semifinalists are having a tough time this season. Roma had a mixed bag of results in the group stages, winning three and losing the remaining three. They had a close game against CSKA Moscow on matchday 4, which they managed to win, to seal their qualification to the next round. The Giallorossi are far from mounting a challenge in the Serie A as they sit in 8th position on the table.

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho’s side somehow managed to make it to the round of 16. The three time Champions League winners failed to beat Valencia on both occasions and only managed to scrape past the Swiss club Young Boys at Old Trafford. They did beat Juventus away from home, however. Manchester United are struggling in the Premier League as well, down in 6th position. They do have some quality players in their side but it remains to be seen if they are still playing for the manager.

Best Possible Opponent – Manchester United

This season has been nothing short of a disaster for Manchester United so far. Jose Mourinho is failing to get the best out of his team and they are unlikely to make the top four this season.

Apart from the internal issues, the team is underperforming on each matchday. The defence is leaking goals at will, while the forwards seem to have no idea what to do with the ball.

The Red Devils are a mess everywhere you look, and unless they manage to somehow improve their situation in the next two months, Borussia Dortmund will be quite happy to face them. Looking at their current form, Borussia Dortmund will easily run over Manchester United.

Lucien Favre will be hoping for an easier set of fixtures in the Round of 16 so that his side can concentrate on the Bundesliga title, considering Bayern Munich are known to tighten the screws after the winter break.
