Jadon Sancho announces himself on the big stage

Last season was a rough one for Borussia Dortmund, with memorable moments few and far between. But while Dortmund were struggling, it gave 18 year old Jadon Sancho a chance to make his mark on the Bundesliga. Signed in August 2017, Sancho had to wait until January to make his full debut for the senior team. He showed glimpses of his extraordinary talent in his first three starts, but then suffered an injury which kept him out for over a month.

His next start came against Bayer Leverkusen on April 21, 2018 and boy did he make the most of his opportunity. Starting on the left wing, the Englishman was a threat from the very first minute. He needed only 13 minutes to open the scoring for Borussia Dortmund as he curled the ball home from 16 yards.

With Dortmund 2-0 up, Sancho then controlled the ball brilliantly before setting up Maximilian Philipp in the 63rd minute. He then picked out Marco Reus with a precise cross as Borussia Dortmund celebrated their biggest win under Peter Stoger. The win also proved to be a vital one, as it helped Borussia Dortmund take a giant step towards Champions League qualification.

It was a truly special performance by Jadon Sancho, who showed us glimpses of his raw talent and ability with the ball at his feet. The winger has gone from strength to strength since then and is now one of Borussia Dortmund’s most important players.
