Borussia Dortmund demolish Nuremberg

The Black and Yellows made a decent start to their campaign under Lucien Favre, but were already four points behind Bayern Munich heading into Matchday five against Nuremberg. What followed was a breathtaking performance as Borussia Dortmund hit seven past a woeful Nuremberg side.

It only took Borussia Dortmund nine minutes to take the lead, when Jacob Bruun Larsen scored his first senior goal for the club after some good work by Christian Pulisic. Marco Reus made it 2-0 at the half hour mark before the floodgates opened up in the second half.

Just four minutes after the restart, Achraf Hakimi found the bottom corner with a low drive. Reus added his second ten minutes later, with Bruun Larsen turning provider. Manuel Akanji then scored Dortmund’s fifth (his first ever goal for the club. Before substitutes Jadon Sancho and Julian Weigl compounded further misery on the newly promoted side.

It was a performance of the highest quality by Borussia Dortmund, and they haven’t looked back since. The Black and Yellows have won ten and drawn one of their 12 games since then and hold a six point cushion heading into the New Year. It was an incredible display of attacking football by Borussia Dortmund and it kick-started their incredible run of form.
